local storage
1. Why this policy has that name
European law (ePrivacy Directive, Article 5(3)) does not only cover cookies: it covers any information a site stores on your device. ShowCloser uses no cookies, but it does use localStorage and sessionStorage, two forms of browser storage. We would rather describe this accurately than publish a cookie policy that does not match what we actually do.
The practical difference: a cookie travels to the server with every request; local storage stays in your browser and is only read by the page's own code. It is less intrusive, cannot be used to follow you across other sites, and you can delete it whenever you want.
2. What we store in your browser
2.1 Strictly necessary (no consent required)
| Key | Where | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| sb-…-auth-token | localStorage or sessionStorage | Keeps you signed in. Without it you would have to log in again on every page. | Until you sign out, or until you close the browser if you chose not to be remembered |
| sc_remember | localStorage | Remembers whether you ticked "Remember me on this device" when signing in. | Until you change it |
| sc_auth_flow | sessionStorage | Temporary marker so we know you are returning from a Google sign-in and can show the right message. | Cleared when you close the tab |
2.2 Usage preferences (no consent required)
| Key | Where | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| sc_lang | localStorage | Your language (Spanish or English). | Until you change it |
| sc_theme | localStorage | Light or dark theme. | Until you change it |
| sc_mode:<your id> | localStorage | Which side of your account you are browsing as (artist or venue), if you have both enabled. | Until you change it |
| sc_page:<your id> | localStorage | Which of your pages is active (your project, your agency, your venue…). | Until you change it |
| sc_route:<your id> | localStorage | Which route it is active through, when the same page is reachable two ways (directly, or via the agency that represents you). | Until you change it |
| sc_tut_open_<your id> | localStorage | Whether you left the dashboard tutorial expanded or collapsed. | Until you change it |
| sc_max_km | localStorage | The distance radius you left set in the search. | Until you change it |
| sc_news_dismissed:<your id> | localStorage | Dashboard notices you have already dismissed. These now travel with your account; the local copy is only a fallback. | Until you delete it |
Keys carrying your identifier are deliberately separated per account: if two people share a browser, their preferences do not mix.
2.3 Sign-up process measurement
| Key | Where | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| sc_visit | sessionStorage | An anonymous identifier generated at random on your device, so we can tell at which step people get stuck when trying to create an account. It tells us nothing about you. | Cleared when you close the tab |
| sc_funnel_signup | sessionStorage | A marker that this tab went through the sign-up screen, so someone merely signing in with Google is not counted as a new account. | Cleared when you close the tab |
With those two keys we record only milestones of the sign-up itself (you arrived, you created the account, you cleared each step), with their date and time. We do not store your IP address, your browser, or which site you came from. The full detail is in section 2.6 of the privacy policy.
2.4 Third-party analytics, advertising and tracking
We use none. No Google Analytics, no social media pixels, no third-party cookies, no cross-site tracking. The measurement in section 2.3 is ours, stays in our own database and is not shared with anyone. Should we ever add a third-party tool, we would update this policy, tell you about it, and ask for your explicit consent before switching anything on.
3. Why you do not see a cookie banner
Prior consent is required for storage that is not essential to deliver the service you asked for — typically third-party analytics and advertising. Everything in the tables above is either strictly necessary (your session) or a preference you set yourself inside the application (your language, your theme). Showing you a banner to approve remembering your own language would be noise with no legal effect.
The sign-up process measurement (section 2.3) does not carry one either, and it is worth saying why rather than taking it for granted: it is first-party audience measurement, limited to our own site, with an identifier that dies when you close the tab, no IP address, no cookies, no cross-site tracking, no profiling and nothing disclosed to third parties; it only produces aggregate figures about our own sign-up form. The day we add a third-party analytics tool, or start storing data that would let us follow you, the banner appears.
4. How to delete or block it
You can remove everything we store by clearing the site data in your browser. Note that doing so signs you out and resets your preferences — your account and your data are unaffected.
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Site data → search showcloser.app → Delete
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage website data → search showcloser.app → Remove
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data
You can also use private browsing: everything is cleared automatically when you close the window.
5. Legal basis
Directive 2002/58/EC (ePrivacy) and its Article 5(3), Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and the AEPD's guidance on cookies and equivalent technologies. For users outside the EU we apply the same standard.
